A normal Friday turned crazy.

So. I got into an
accident. Can't go into details about
the accident but basically I got hit on the passenger side by a car probably going between 45-50 mph and I was going about 5 mph into the Boeing complex.

After I got hit, I wasn't really sure what happened, I just
know I was bleeding all over my face, and glass was all over my face and
pants. I stumbled out onto the
sidewalk, tried to call 911, but I lost orientation. I dropped my phone, sat down on the sidewalk and wasn't sure what
was going on, except that blood was dripping all over my face and a mouthful of
broken teeth, or so I thought. I spit
out everything in my mouth while I was sitting down only to find out that it
wasn't my teeth, but a mouthful of glass.
As I kept spitting out the glass in my mouth, it was ripping my tongue
and the insides of my mouth, only to cause more bleeding. From the corner of my eye, the other lady
who had hit me was calling someone (presumably 911) but I was just so out of
it, I just sat there watching blood drip from my face onto the concrete. People came out of the nearby building
asking me if I was okay, but I couldn't talk for some reason. When the paramedics came, they asked me what
my name was and the date, and for the life of me, I could not remember and
could not talk, so I did not say anything.
They threw me into the ambulance and sent me away to the hospital. I regained orientation and real
consciousness as to what happened at around 9:00 ish when I found myself in the
emergency room with bandages on my face.
Blood was still dripping from my chin and my eyebrow because the doctor did
not have time to stitch it up until about 3pm.
So for 6 hours, I was just sitting in my bed in the emergency room, watching
other trauma patients roll in and out while I was there waiting for a doctor to
stitch up my bloody chin and eye. i had cuts all around my right side of my face, and lacerations on my chin and above my eye (needed stitches) (nothing life threatening though) I had a fractured first rib and lung contusion.
At first, it didn't sound so bad, but I was in serious pain and here's
why:

"The first rib is rarely fractured because of its protected position behind the clavicle (collarbone). However, if it is broken serious damage can occur to the brachial plexus of nerves and the subclavian vessels."

"A force strong enough to cause contusion may cause fissuring of a portion of the lung, allowing air to escape into it. This internal air leak is known as a pneumatocele. If this air space fills with blood, a pulmonary hematoma results. These entities are not usually detectable as early as the contusion and may take a couple of days to visualize."

So I can barely breathe, because it freakin hurts when I
breathe and laugh and cough, and anything to do with my lungs, which is
basically everything. Friend brought me
an ipod video with a bunch of movies…all comedy, so I couldn't watch. So I sat there watching sports and random
shows that were on tv..and pretty much just reading magazines. It felt kinda good not having anything on my
mind though, and I was being taken care of by nurses.

I couldn't sleep the whole night because everybody's IV
machines kept beeping, including mine.
It felt weird being in the hospital because I volunteer at the hospital; I was not supposed to be a patient in the hospital. The next day, I slowly
walked to visit my volunteer buddies rolling an IV machine in one hand. Obviously, they were like..wat the
freak. Anyways, it was interesting,
told them what happened and stuff. And
then I got a call on the hospital intercom that said "Jonathan Cham, please
report back to your bed in 4 south, Jonathan Cham, please report back to your
bed in 4 south" I thought I was in big
trouble or something but they just didn't want me wallking around. I went back and that was when they said I could go home and rest. They then took out the IV thingy from my arm..but when the nurse taped the IV on my arm, she taped up one of my cuts!!! so when she took off the tape, it ripped my cut open and bled!!! OWWWW.

anyhow..there are tons of mini stories to tell but i dont remember them all. what a crazy experience.

i'm glad to be alive. glad to be here, blogging about this experience. t

i just want to thank everybody for being there, calling, following up..i know some of you called and i didn't return the call but I will..i promise. i couldn't talk much the first couple days so I will catch up with all of u later. i defiinitely owe some people dinners. nothing can really express what i feel about everybody offering to drive me around and run errands for me..i really do appreciate that.

holler.

stuff

high performance embedded linux on a DSP not a GPP
ethernet
serial
CANN interface (built in interfaces) (what's the benefit of CANN, what can you do with it)
camera interface
small size

Saturday, May 20, 2006

this was sent to me by lillian..i did NOT write this myself!!
cool

so i was talking to a friend and his friend passed away. so i had some things to say about people passing away..and this is just what i think.

everybody you meet, has contributed to some part of who you are right now. Whether you liked the person or you hated them, they have changed you in one way or another. Mannerisms, body language and all sorts of other characteristics you pick up unexpectedly from your interactions with people. So when someone passes away, they are never really dead, maybe just physically, but otherwise, that person has just really been spread into hundreds/thousands of pieces of which are now living in all of those people that have met that person.

I really don't think anybody is really who they are, they are just a compilation of other people. It's like a DJ Cham mix. but instead of music, you mix people. It's a summation of parts of people, and everybody is different because no two people know exactly the same people. Have you noticed that people who hang around the same people are generally similar? I'm so fortunate to have met the people that i have, because everybody is so special in their own way, like really, not just saying that. You have to talk to someone to really realize how awesome they are.

Have I changed you?
Wednesday, April 26, 2006

coffee + walking in circles = epiphany.
